About The Course

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is an in-depth field based program where students benefit from both theoretical and practical knowledge in preparation for a career in the agriculture industry’s many sectors. Throughout the program, students have the opportunity to investigate a wide variety of topics and prepare a scientific paper or thesis. They graduate with an education that will empower them to create positive change within Nepal’s largest and most important industry.

Teaching Approach

HICAST emphasizes experiential learning through field methods and participatory learning approaches. Students begin their field/practical work during the second semester of the program. 
They also have the opportunity to expand their learning through their elective courses that include the following topics: 

  • Sustainable Agriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Soil Science
  • Livestock Production & Management
  • Development Studies
  • Agri-economics and Business Management
  • Plant Protection
  • Plant Breeding

Field-based Internship

Students in the agriculture and veterinary programs participate in a field-based internship in the last semester of their program and prepare a thesis. This internship is intended to broaden the perspective of the student as well as impart practical knowledge in relation to his/her field of specialization. Internships are coordinated in various agro-based industries, research farms, laboratories or veterinary hospitals as well as private farms, I/NGOs and GOs operating in different agro-ecological conditions.
